Access to Quality Care

Sometimes it can feel like taking care of your mental health is an impossible task, especially when you’re suffering from the symptoms that keep you from moving forward. Whether you're going through a difficult time, facing a more complex situation, or in crisis, getting the right level of support can make a huge difference.

Mental health struggles are increasingly common, affecting individuals and families across New Jersey. Recent data from the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) reports that 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. experiences a mental health challenge annually, with New Jersey reflecting similar trends. Alarmingly, nearly 40% of those affected don’t seek care, often due to barriers like stigma, lack of access, or insufficient resources.

In communities like Union County, including Cranford, Westfield, and Scotch Plains, these challenges are felt deeply. Accessible, effective treatment programs can change lives while improving the community’s overall health. At Seldenrow Behavioral Health, we provide tailored care options such as outpatient therapy, Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP), and Partial Care Programs, ensuring that each person receives the level of support they need.

Seeking mental health treatment is not only a personal step toward wellness but also a way to strengthen your family, workplace, and community. If you or someone you know is ready to take that step, Seldenrow Behavioral Health is here to guide you with care and professionalism.

Partial care offers intensive day treatment programs without the overnight residential stay.

Intensive outpatient, or IOP for short, provides flexible day & evening programming.

What to Expect from Our Programs

Our Mental Health Treatment Programs in NJ

Mental health care works best as a continuum, with different levels of care that allow for an appropriate intensity of treatment based on symptom severity, personal circumstances, and clinical needs. At Seldenrow Behavioral Health, we don’t think of these programs as a ladder, where a person “levels up” or down depending on how they’re doing. Mental health programs are flexible, and each is structured to meet the needs of the person entering treatment. No two people will follow the same path.

For some, traditional outpatient therapy may be enough to make real change. For others, more frequent support may be needed, including IOP or even a more structured Partial Care program. When 24-hour care is needed, inpatient programs are an option, and we can connect you to those resources when the time is right.

Partial Care Program (PHP)

Partial Care Programs provide a high level of structured support for individuals who need intensive care but do not require hospitalization. It is designed for those whose mental health symptoms interfere with their ability to function independently in daily life but who can still safely live at home. Partial Care offers daily intensive care and allows residents to return home each night.

Partial Care can address issues such as severe depression, anxiety, or managing life transitions after a mental health crisis. Programs generally combine therapy, skill-building, and psychiatric services provided throughout the day in a supportive setting.

The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a step up from traditional outpatient therapy. It offers structured mental health care several days a week while giving clients the flexibility to live at home and attend to personal responsibilities.

IOP focuses on helping individuals understand and manage their mental health conditions in a practical, accessible way. For many, it’s an excellent option if traditional once-a-week therapy isn’t enough but hospitalization or Partial Care is not required.

IOP programs can provide:

  • Individual therapy for exploring personal goals and challenges
  • Group therapy to build connection and learn from shared experiences
  • Psychiatric care and medication management to address symptoms holistically
  • Psychoeducation on mental health conditions, triggers, and strategies for wellness
  • Relapse prevention to maintain gains
  • Family involvement to build understanding and support

Outpatient Therapy is the least intensive level of care. Outpatient mental health services are flexible and provide regular mental health care for those capable of managing day-to-day responsibilities. This level of care is an ideal option for those experiencing mild to moderate symptoms. It is also a great fit for individuals transitioning from more intensive levels of care, such as Partial Care or IOP.

Services may include:

  • Individual therapy for personal growth and coping
  • Family therapy to improve relationships and communication
  • Group therapy for connection and support
  • Psychiatric evaluations for diagnostic clarification
  • Medication management to help regulate symptoms

Sometimes, symptoms become so severe that outpatient or community-based care isn’t enough to ensure safety or effective treatment. In these cases, inpatient mental health treatment may be appropriate. Seldenrow Behavioral Health does not provide inpatient care directly, but we offer critical referral services to connect individuals and families with the resources they need.

When you work with us for inpatient referrals, we:

  1. Assess the individual’s immediate needs and guide decision-making.
  2. Identify inpatient facilities that match your treatment and logistical needs.
  3. Clarify what to expect from the inpatient process and provide navigation support.
  4. Help coordinate a smooth transition back to outpatient or community-based care after inpatient treatment ends.

What to Look for in a Mental health Program

Choose the Right Mental Health Program in NJ

The appropriate program for you or your loved one will depend on several factors, including:

The severity of your symptoms

Your level of daily functioning

Your treatment history and past responses to care

Your current support system and living environment

Any safety concerns, like self-harm or harm to others

For instance, an individual who is in extreme distress and having a difficult time completing daily tasks may find Partial Care most helpful, whereas an individual who requires frequent appointments but is experiencing moderate anxiety may find an IOP most beneficial. However, someone who is doing well but who would like to explore more aspects of their mental health may find Outpatient Treatment to be a good fit. If you find yourself in crisis, we can help you find inpatient care.

Regardless of your situation, our staff will assess your needs and recommend the best level of care for you.
